Fellow Runesters . . . The actual Yule–Winter Solstice arrives at 10:27 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the late evening of Thursday 12/21/23 (Friday, December 22, 2023 at 3:27am UTC). At Denali, we will do your do our meditation on the Wednesday EVENING (the 20th) as Mother Night, which in Elder Tradition births the “Day of Solstice.”. While the actual times of Solstice in Western hemisphere time zones may be in the “dark” of evening and the next “Day” is not the next physical day after Mother Night, we recognize that “Mother Night” is the night prior to the “Day” of Solstice and we at Denali will honor the Elder tradition by calling “Mother Night” on Wednesday the 20th as preceding the actual moment of Solstice in our respective time zones. With that being said, you have a choice of options, and the widow is distinct for the entire 24-36 hour period.
